The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts recently helped dedicate a replica of a fishweir, a traditional fishing trap, on the Boston Common.

Fishweirs have been found throughout the city and date as far back as 3,000 B.C. A network of sticks, and brush, they were used to catch fish in tidal waters.

Local students helped build the replica now on display in the Common.
