Cherokee Nation eliminates BIA approval

Cherokee Nation voters approved an amendment to the tribal constitution that eliminates the need for Bureau of Indian Affairs approval.

The old constitution required the BIA to sign off on any changes.

The amendment was approved by 62 percent of voters.
