FRIDAY, MAY 30, 2003

The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board declined to approve a scaled-back proposal to store nuclear waste on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation in Utah.

The panel said the application to store 336 casks of waste instead of 4,000 has to be considered separate from its earlier ruling against the facility.

Private Fuel Storage, a consortium of eight electric utilities, has signed a lease with the tribal council to store the waste on the facility.
