Lamberth holds Iran liable for terrorist bombing

MONDAY, JUNE 2, 2003 U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth on Friday held the Iranian government liable for the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. Lamberth said the terrorist group Hezbollah carried out the attack, which killed 241 soldiers, at the behest of top Iranian officials. It was the first time a court has linked the country to the bombing. Lamberth will appoint a special master to sort out wrongful death claims filed by relatives of the dead against Iran. It is not clear how the plaintiffs will be able to collect money damages. Get the Story:
