MONDAY, JUNE 2, 2003

The state of New Mexico is asking Laguna Pueblo to share more of its casino revenues.

Under compacts signed in 2001, tribes with gaming facilities that bring in more than $12 million in annual slot machine revenues must pay 8 percent to the state. Small facilities pay 3 percent.

Laguna Pueblo has two casinos, one of which is a small facility. The state contends that both casinos, when combined, should share 8 percent. The tribe wants each treated separately.

The tribe paid $336,440 to the state for the first quarter of 2003. Under the state's analysis, the would have to contribute $402,000.
