The Eastern Shoshone Tribe and the Northern Arapaho Tribe, both of Wyoming, have asked the Bureau of Land Management to close off an area used for hunting, medicine gathering and ceremonies to energy development.

BLM has issued an environmental impact statement for the 620,000-acre Jack Morrow Hills area of the Red Desert. The plan calls for up to 205 oil and gas wells to be drilling in the hills, known for its sacred sites and endangered species.
