The tribal council for Santa Ana Pueblo in New Mexico has sanctioned its top leaders, stripping them of certain powers, The Albuquerque Journal reports.

The council said Governor Myron Armijo and Lt. Governor Glenn Tenorio failed to carry out orders and caused financial and legal problems for the tribe. Armijo and Tenorio were stripped of authority over the police department and no longer have discretion over council matters.

A financial adviser was also barred from working for the tribe.
