Shakopee tribe awards $1M grant to Ojibwe band

THURSDAY, JUNE 5, 2003 The Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Community of Minnesota awarded a $1 million grant to the Leech Lake Ojibwe Band to help fight poverty. The funds will be used by the Leech Lake Band to purchase vehicles for a heritage program. A scholarship program at the the Leech Lake Tribal College will also benefit. The Shakopee tribe, using gaming and non-gaming revenues, has donated more than $23.5 million in grants to tribes and non-profits. Get the Story:
