The state of Texas and the Pacific Legal Foundation, an organization that has opposed tribal authority over non-Indians, are among the interests that have joined the battle over Kennewick Man.

According to the plaintiff scientists in the case, the parties are supporting the right to study the 9,000-year-old remains. On their web site, the scientists said they will post the amicus briefs.

Four Pacific Northwest tribes and the Bush administration are seeking to overturn a federal judge's ruling that allowed study. The tribes claim they are related to the Ancient One.

The case, Bonnichsen v. U.S., Nos. 02-35994, 02-35996, is before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
