Martin said winner of Miss. Choctaw election

THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2003 Phillip Martin has been re-elected chief of the Mississippi Choctaw Tribe, the Associated Press reports, beating three challengers with 64 percent of the vote. Official results will be ready by Friday. Also up for grabs are eight of 16 tribal council seats. Martin has led the tribe since 1979. He has presided over large economic development projects, including two casinos. Get the Story:
