Indiana governor to create Indian commission

MONDAY, JUNE 23, 2003 Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon will issue an executive order this week to create the state's first American Indian commission. The 20-member commission will address archaeological and work-force issues. It replaces the state's Native American Council. O'Bannon he vetoed legislation that would have created a commission because he said it would have excluded the state's Miami Nation, which is not federally recognized. Get the Story:
