The four tribes with treaty rights on the Columbia River are preparing for strong salmon runs.

Member tribes of the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission will hold the first summer gillnet fishery in 38 years. Chinook are in high numbers but a biologist cautions that salmon are still endangered and threatened.

The four treaty tribes are the Yakama, Umatilla, Warm Springs and Nez Perce.
