Crews optimistic in fighting Taos Pueblo blaze

MONDAY, JULY 14, 2003 Crews have contained 65 percent of a fire burning on Taos Pueblo land in northern New Mexico. The Encebado Fire, which was sparked by lightning July 4, has burned 5,370 acres of tribal land. It has not forced evacuation of homes but has threatened a sacred watershed the tribe relies on for water. Crews hope to have the fire fully contained by Tuesday. Get the Story:
