WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 2003

A fire on Taos Pueblo land in northern New Mexico was 70 percent contained as of late Tuesday.

The 5,400-acre Encebado Fire was sparked July 4 by lightning. After defying earlier attempts at containment, crews have been successful in limiting the reach of the blaze to a sacred watershed and other important tribal sites.
