Pombo: Bill would have settled Cobell for pennies

A spokesperson for Rep. Richard Pombo (R-Calif.) said an appropriations rider would have settled the Cobell Indian trust fund lawsuit for mere "pennies to a dollar," The Seattle Times reports.

Pombo came out in heavy opposition to the proposal, which was drafted not by the House Resources Committee, which he chairs, but by the House Appropriations Committee. An agreement he brokered will strip the 2004 bill of the settlement language.
