Cecilia Lucero, a teacher at the Bureau of Indian Affairs school on the Laguna Pueblo reservation in New Mexico, has been recognized as one of the top 32 teachers in the country.

Lucero received an "American Teacher Award" from Walt Disney for her creative efforts at the elementary school, where she teaches 4th grade. She was the only Native American to be recognized in the competition, which drew 185,000 nominees. She received $10,000 and $5,000 for the school.

Lucero will find out next week whether she won the "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" award, worth $35,000.
