Two Congressional committees have cut funds to the Mni Wiconi water project for the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Sioux reservations in South Dakota.

The House and Senate versions of the Department of Interior's appropriations bill allocate $20.2 million in construction funds in 2004. The amount is one-third below current levels, which could delay completion of the project and increase its overall cost.
