N.D. Natives have shortest life span in Indian Country

North Dakota Native Americans have the shortest life span of all American Indians, The Bismarck Daily Tribune reports.

Life expectancy of Natives ranges from a low of 64.3 years to a high of 76.3 years, according to the University of North Dakota. Natives in North Dakota, along with other Plains states, fall on the lower end.

Elder health care is the focus of a meeting of state, federal and tribal officials in Bismarck this week.

Also today, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold another hearing on reauthorization of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act. The hearing will start at 10 a.m. A live video feed can be found at http://indian.senate.gov.
