OCTOBER 19, 2000 Some of Native America's greatest leaders, like Geronimo and Chief Joseph, are on display in Paris, France, where a photographic exhibit of the work of Edward Curtis is being shown. Curtis spent much of his career taking pictures of Native Americans all over the West. Like many people, he believed Native people would disappear. Curtis work has been praised, as well as criticized. Many of the attempts to capture Indians in their "natural state" were staged by Curtis. The exhibit, consisting of some 3,000 photographs, is the first public showing of the collection of Christopher Cardozo, an American photographer. Get the Story:
