Native artists showcase ponies

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2001 A group of Native artists in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Sunday displayed their contributions to the Trail of Painted Ponies, a statewide art exhibit. The artists each had a fiberglas and polyurethane horse with which to work. Yellowman painted Cheyenne warriors on his "When We Were As One." Virgil Ortiz of Cochiti Pueblo adorned his horse with spikes and other accessories. All of the ponies are for sale, fetching prices of $30,000 and more. Eighty percent of the proceeds are going to Habitat for Humanity. Get the Story:
