Cherokee artist Talmadge Davis donated a $22,000 painting to the National Army Museum of the Southwest, a museum that will be built in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

The painting depicts a disabled Indian veteran who fought in the Vietnam War. He is shown at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the painting includes the names of the 238 known Native Americans who died in the war.

Comanche activist Jhane Myers helped unveil the painting on Tuesday.

The museum needs to raise $8.5 million to finance its construction.
