WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2001

Participants in seminar held on Tuesday at the National Indian Education Association in Billings gathered to discuss problems facing Montana's Indian students.

They pointed to a U.S. Commission on Civil Rights that said education of Indian students was in a “crisis situation." To help correct it, they said more voter participation, better communication and coordinated solutions are needed.

Also addressing problems was Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Linda McCulloch. She said the state is committed to improving Native education.
