JANUARY 8, 2000 The US Department of Education will review a racism report filed by the Win-E-Mac School District in Minnesota, seeking to enforce courses of action following an incident in which two Indian students were allegedly assaulted. The incident occurred at a pep rally held before a game between two high schools in the district. Teachers at one of the schools dressed up as Indians and performed a skit, vowing to send the other team, from a school Red Lake Indian Reservation, back to the "reservation." The district and the Education Department agreed to five courses of action, including cultural awareness training of staff and students. Get the Story:
