Haskell to inaugurate new president

FEBRUARY 1, 2001 Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas, on Friday will inaugurate Karen Swisher as the first female president of the tribal college. Dr. Swisher is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North Dakota. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Master of Science degree in Elementary School Administration from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and a doctoral degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Dakota. She has previously held administrative positions at Arizona State University, the University of Uta and Huron College in South Dakota and has been serving as interim president at Haskell since July 1999.
