FEBRUARY 1, 2001 The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) on Wednesday announced the appointment of Dr. Gerald E. Gipp as executive director of the organization which serves as a voice for the nation's tribal colleges. "Leading AIHEC is an exciting and challenging opportunity," said Gipp. "Tribal colleges and universities strive to provide high quality, accessible, and culturally-relevant higher education to Native peoples. My goal as executive director is to assist member institutions in fulfilling this vital role." Gipp's primary responsibilities are overseeing the direction and management of AIHEC's 13-member staff, serving as its national spokesperson, and monitoring federal policies, legislation, and grant management programs.
