Historians and scholars of the Cherokee Nation met in Tahlequah on Tuesday to discuss an exhibit that will showcase the tribe's history since the tribe arrived in Oklahoma in the 1830s.

A common theme historians raised is the tribe's ability to re-invent itself amidst changes. From the forced removal on the Trail of Tears to allotmnent, the tribe has emerged with strong leaders, they said.

The exhibit at the Cherokee Heritage Center is expected to open May 12.
