Tribe's gifts total nearly $1M

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho has donated money to education instutions for years but their gift of $980,000 last month was the largest ever.

The tribe has been able to donate the money thanks to profits from its casino. The gifts include $10,000 for a scholarship for an Idaho Indian student at the University of Idaho, $50,000 for construction of a cultural center at North Idaho College, $5,000 to replace an aging copy machine at Sorenson Elementary School, $15,000 to the Coeur d'Alene School District, and $10,000 each for Kellogg and Kootenai School Districts.

The largest gifts went to the Plummer-Worley School District and Coeur d'Alene Tribal School. Plumer-Worley received $290,000 and the tribal school received $513,000.
