MAY 14, 2001 Orlando Begay will graduate from Newcomb High School in Newcomb, New Mexico, on Thursday, having undergone a dramatic transformation from gang leader to school leader over the past three years. Along the way, Begay got some help from a tough principal, a Navajo healing ceremony, and his grandmother. In turn, he's helped other members of his gang, the West Side Brown Town Locos, become more academically inclined and even got them to join him on the school's sports teams. Get the Story:
