MAY 29, 2001 The Native American Preparatory School (NAPS) and Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS), both in New Mexico, differ in how they approach their students but both are graduating Indian children who go on to higher instituations of learning. NAPS was founded in 1995 as a private school for Indian students. It has a tough admissions process and a $24,000 tuition. SFIS was founded in 1890 amid attempts to assimiliate Indians. It has undergone a number of changes and is now owned and run by New Mexico's 19 Pueblos. All 10 of NAPS' 2001 graduates are going on to college. About 75 percent from SFIS are doing the same.
