One of the researchers participating in the Department of Interior ordered tests on the 9,000 year old Native American known as Kennewick Man says DNA tests might not provide any information about his cultural affiliation.

The tests were ordered in order to determine to what present day tribes, if any, the bones should be repatriated. Under the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act of 1990, a cultural affiliation must be shown.

University of New Mexico anthropologist Joe Powell said that humans have evolved, migrated, and changed so much in 9,000 years that its hard to trace heritage.
