AUGUST 10, 2000 The Appaloosa Registry and Horse Club retraced part of the route on which Chief Joseph took the Nez Perce tribe in their attempt to flee into Canada. The 1,300-mile journey is traveled in 100 mile segements every summer. This summer, 260 rider took part, including members of the Nez Perce tribe of Idaho. Just 30 miles short of the Canadian border in Bear Paw's Mountains, the US Army caught up with Joseph and the tribe. Joseph surrendered. Get the Story:
