WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2001 The Santa Fe Indian School has been awarded a $300,000 grant to promote professional development in education administration, said Senator Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) on Tuesday. The grant was awarded by the Department of Education. It is a partnership between the school and New Mexico Highlands University, which is located in Las Vegas. "This funding will help increase the number of American Indians in education-related fields, adding to the ranks of qualified education professionals serving Indian communities," said Domenici. The program will allow 25 Indian students to obtain master's degrees in educational administration. The two-year program will provide tuition, a monthly living stipend, dependent allowance, and book reimbursement. At completion, students must work in a position to benefit Indian communities or pay a portion of the assistance they received. Santa Fe Indian School is owned and run by New Mexico's 19 Pueblos.
