The College Board on Tuesday released its annual report on scores for the SAT test. Most major newspapers and media outlets covered the story -- here's what you can find out about local scores.

OKLAHOMA:
Oklahoma has some of the highest tests scores in the nation, beating the national average. Native students in particular had higher than average scores.

African-American students in Washington showed the largest increase in the state.

UTAH:
Students in Utah had the ninth highest scores in the nation. A state education official attributed the high performance to a small group of elite students who take the test. Most Western schools prefer the ACT.

NEW YORK:
Taking a look at scores nationally, the more students who take the test, the more steady the results are, says The New York Times. White and minority scores show improvement when examined separately.

NEW MEXICO:
New Mexico students beat the national average. As in Utah, the group taking the test was small -- just 13 percent of high school graduates took the test.

KANSAS:
Kansas students test higher than the national average with students in one particular district beating the state average. Students tend to take the ACT, said a school official.

COLORADO:
Students in Colorado beat the national average but minorities were underrepresented among test takers. All students are required to take the ACT.

Test scores showed a dramatic 24-point drop in the District of Columbia. Regional scores changed little or dropped slightly.
