Winnebagos create national cemetery

The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska has created the first national Indian cemetary in Illinois which will be used to rebury ancestors of the Winnebago and 11 other tribes.

The six acre cemetery inside a wildlife preserve is located west of Peoria, Illinois. It will be used to bury the more than 12,000 remains currently being held by the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

The area is the traditional homeland of the Winnebago of Nebraska and other tribes.
