The Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation is holding its annual meeting in South Dakota this week.

The foundation is working with other groups to commemorate the bicentennial of Lewis & Clark's journey to the Pacific from 1803 to 1806.

About 500 people are attending the meeting. Ron Laycock, a Minnesota scholar, said the explorers weren't able to make peace with Teton Sioux leaders because they left a valuable interpreter behind.
