Indian dropouts down

SEPTEMBER 22, 2000

More American Indian students are completing high school, according to the state of Minnesota.

The rate of Indian students who stayed in school increased by 5 percent, from 60.1 to 65.3 percent. However, more than a third of Indian students dropped out over the period from 1996 to 1999.

"The increase in minority completion rates is indeed good news, but their dropout rates are still too high," said education commissioner Christine Jax.
