The Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, stands to get fully funded for $4.125 million, announced Senator Pete Domeninci (R-N.Mex) on Thursday.

Domenici said that an agreement made in a House-Senate Conference Committee led to the appropriation. The figure would cover the school's funding for the fiscal year 2001 and is part of the Department of Interior's 2001 Appropriations Bill.

Both the House and Senate still have to approve the bills. The Senate's version of the bill, however, had appropriated no money for the school, who last year saw its funding slashed in half.

The school recently moved to its new campus in Santa Fe. Previously, it had been housed on the campus of the College of Santa Fe.

"With today's conference agreement, congressional support for IAIA next year has been solidified," said Domenici.
