During a recent meeting held in Massachusetts, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act Review Committee recommended the remains of Spirit Cave Man be affiliated with the Fallon-Paiute Tribe of Nevada.

The Bureau of Land Management has determined the 9,000-year-old remains to be culturally unidentifiable. The committee's decision could lead to a reversal of that finding.

The tribe believes Spirit Cave Man is an ancestor. He was found on federal land in western Nevada.
