The Connecticut State Archaeologist is asking the developers of a golf course to conduct an archaeological survey to check for Indian and other artifacts.

Nicholas F. Bellantoni said he doesn't want to stop development of the 18-hole golf course on 144 acres of land in Stonington. Should any artifacts be discovered, he wants the developers not to harm the site.

In other golf course news, the town of North Stonington approved an 18-hole golf course and resort proposed by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. The tribe and its partner, however, can't start construction until a lawsuit they filed regarding restrictions placed on the project is resolved.
