Group urged to recognize Natives

FRIDAY, APRIL 19, 2002 Rick West, the director of the National Museum of the American Indian, spoke at a historic preservation conference on Thursday. West told the U.S. Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites that tribal cultures need to be recognized because Native Americans are not historical relics. He also encouraged the group to recognize the Native perspective on sacred sites and preservation. The conference is meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Get the Story:
