FRIDAY, APRIL 26, 2002

The Sand Creek Massacre site in Colorado is closer to reality thanks to a casino company.

Southwest Entertainment Inc. is buying 1,465 acres of land for $1.5 million. The company will give the land to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma.

The land will then be administered by the National Park Service as part of a memorial to the 1864 massacre. The parcel was considered necessary to making the site a reality.

The company manages a casino for the tribes in Oklahoma. The firm also owns casinos in Colorado.
