"Wartime profiteers and hoarders in the United States usually pay for their sins with public embarrassment, a preferable fate to being taken out and shot in the Soviet Union of Stalin or Afghanistan under the Taliban.

Unfortunately, the nation has no penalties, not even a reprimand, for political profiteering or grandstanding at a time when the nation needs unity of purpose.

Sen. Frank Murkowski, R-Alaska, is a political profiteer. Using the Sept. 11 atrocity and war on terrorism as his platform, he has threatened to stall the Senate in an effort to push approval of oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. . ."
