Wyo. approves methane generator policy

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2001 All portable methane generators will have to meet federal air quality standards starting next month, the Wyoming Wyoming Air Quality Advisory Board decided Thursday. But all existing generators, and those registered by the end of the month, will be given a waiver until the end of 2003, said the board. They will also be allowed to move freely from site to site without going through a timely permitting process. The existing 2,700 generators in the state produce about 15,900 tons of nitrous oxide emissions annually, according to the state. State regulators are worried some generators are exceeding air quality standards. Region 8 of the Environmental Protection Agency has proposed standards affecting coalbed development. The standards will affect development in Indian Country, should tribes allow it. Get the Story:
