EDITORIAL: Saving the salmon

OCTOBER 4, 2000

A guest columnist in today's issue of The Seattle Times says lawsuits filed by environmental groups aren't the key to helping save the salmon in the Northwest.

Bill Wilkerson is the executive director of the Washington Forest Protection Association. Members of the association participated in negotiations with tribes, the National Marine Fisheries Service, and other state and government agencies to come up with the Forests and Fish plan, which was passed into law in 1999.

Wilkerson says the plan will help save salmon and protect natural resources, not lawyers and judges.
