State releases bison plan

NOVEMBER 17, 2000 The state of Montana has released its own management of bison in Yellostone National Park and they say it is similar to the one proposed by the National Park Service (NPS). Montana officials say theirs differs in defining the buffer zones between bison and cattle as well as addressing public safety. The reason why buffer zones are needed, officials from the state and federal government say, is to prevent the transmission of brucellosis from bison to cattle. The NPS announced its own plan in August. A primary concern has been the killing of 1,500 buffalo under an interim management plan. The NPS' plan attempts to reduce killing of bison. Get the Story:
