Pueblo to cut down trees

NOVEMBER 7, 2000 The Pueblo of Sandia will be cutting down non-native species of trees along the Rio Grande in New Mexico in an effort to restore the area. The tribe will cut down the excess trees in order to plant cottonwood poles, willow, and native salt grasses. The area is used for ceremonial and religous purposes and it was also once used by tribal members to hunt but is now filled with overgrowth. Get the Story:
