JANUARY 17, 2001 President Bill Clinton is expected today to announce six new national monuments in the West, including a site considered sacred by Cochiti Pueblo of New Mexico. The sites being named are the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks in New Mexico, Upper Missouri River Breaks and Pompeys Pillar in Montana, Carrizo Plain in California, the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, and Minidoka in Idaho. The Montana sites have ties to the Lewis and Clark expedition and the Idaho site was a Japanese internment camp. Get the Story:
