Snowmobile ban set in place

JANUARY 29, 2001

A rule phasing out snowmobiles from Yellowstone Natinal Park and Grand Teton National Park may be hard to reverse now that it has been published in the Federal Register.

The rule was one of several which Republican lawmakers have hoped President George W. Bush would overturn or change. Bush's transition team put a hold on all rules which had not yet been appeared in the Federal Register but the snowmobile rule has already been published, effectively finalizing it.

Still, any rules which have not yet gone into effect have been delayed by 60 days. The snowmobile rule was published on January and its effective date is expected to be pushed back until March.
