Fines could be heavy for town

JANUARY 4, 2000

Already having learned an expansion project by the Mohegan Tribe wouldn't fix their sewage waste problems, the Connecticut town of Montville is facing heavy fines for polluting the Thames River.

The town's sewer system is at near capacity and town leaders hoped the tribe's $3 million project would help alleviate them. The town has been working with state environmental officials on correcting their violations and on Tuesday met to discuss violations from December 1998 to July 1999.
