Vaccination big part of bison program

FEBRUARY 20, 2001 Although the National Park Service and the US Department of Agriculture say the eradication of brucellosis is not one of their goals, federal officials are busy trying to vaccinate bison in Yellowstone National Park. The bison in the park are the survivors of a population that once dominated the plains. They often wander beyond park boundaries, leading Montana state officials to shoot them in order to protect cattle and private property. Government scientists are working on several plans to help reduce the transmission of brucellosis from bison to cattle. Get the Story:
